You probably know more about the issue that I do, but I will share some very basic knowledge, without having any specific knowledge of the hardware/software you are using.įirst, since you refer to the "cable" from Bimmersoftware, I assume you are trying to make a physical wired connection between the OBDII port and a USB port on your Surface 3? The main thing I am trying to do with INPA is find out which battery the ECU thinks I have as I suspect it does not match the one actually in the car. I also put a copy of obd.ini in c:\ just in case. My path environment variable has an entry to c:\ediabas\bin which contains the obd.ini file. I noticed when I ran INPA and selected INFO (F1) that there were question marks in the entry for location of the ini file. I think maybe the Surface took com1 and com2 over to use for the touch screen or mouspad. Mine is set up on com3 because I am unable to see any place in device manager to change it to com1. I read a lot about you have to have your USB talking to com1 but I found someone who says it works with any port as long as you change the value in obd.ini. I suspect a port issue but can't sort it out. The battery and ingnition indicators stay off no matter what.
INPA runs but is not connecting to the car. I have the cable from which many people recommend. I set up XP inside VirtualBox on my Surface 3 and installed BMW tools using the method described here:
